Dacorum Fencing Does Littlecote House! Helen arranged a fencing exhibition / trial session at Littlecote house in the Cotswold borders. This is a fantastic place, so rich with history! We set up our exhibition in the Long Gallery, and showed and explained what fencing is all about. Afterwards, some who were interested got to don some kit and have a free lesson. I'm not sure who enjoyed it most, them or us! There are pictures on the facebook page (see below), but I shall add them to this site in due course.

Another win for Dacorum Novice Fencers
Dacorum fencers took their second straight win in the Herts Novice Foil League this week!
On Thursday 17th January, we won by 45 to 20 against the St.Albans novice team. Jack Parsons, Guy Miscampbell and Connor Sutton fenced well from the beginning, building a comfortable lead. St.Albans mounted a fight back but were eventually overcome by Dacorum. Keep up the good work, and good luck with your next match!!

Our thanks go to the St.Albans Fencing Club for making us so welcome and to James Lee, the organiser of the event.

2007/2008 Herts Novice League
Dacorum fencers made a confidence boosting start to the Herts Novice League last night (3rd December) with a 45-24 win over an inexperienced University of Hertfordshire team.

Guy Miscampbell, Jack Parsons and Connor Sutton, two of whom were fencing in their first competitive match, started well and took a large early lead.  The University fencers fought back well in the middle stages of the match, but in the end the initial lead proved to be too great to overcome.

Our thanks go to University of Hertfordshire Fencing Club for organising the evening and for making us so welcome.

Dacorum Fencing Branches out once more!! Our new coach, Lajos, has an unwavering enthusiasm to get more people involved in the exciting sport of fencing. In a bid to bring this healthy, thrilling, competitive sport to even more people, he has started another wing to Dacorum fencing in the form of the Fencing Nursery.

It is held at the Grove Hill Youth Centre, Stevenage Rise, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, HP2 6BH. Anyone is welcome, even if you are disabled and wish to take part in wheelchair fencing. If you wish to attend, just drop an email to Chris King and put Fencing Nursery in the subject line. Or you can email Lajos directly at lajos.fazekas@btinternet.com

The Dacorum Fencing Club Picnic was a roaring success! The people numbered in the hundreds, and we all enjoyed blissful sun shine with temperatures soaring to 30C!

Ok, so I might have exaggerated a little. The weather was as British as you would expect, overcast, windy with light showers, but that didn't stop the hardcore of Dacorum Fencing enjoy a spot of lunch alfresco style, accompanied with some Olympic level fencing with foam swords!

I'll try and get the rest of the pics up here soon!

CONGRATULATIONS RICHARD SUMMERS!!

Dacorum does it again! Richard Summons entered the Hertfordshire Novice Championships this year and brought back the age old trophy that has been going from club to club since 1964! He did extraordinarily well, and won by quite a large margin.

Last year Colin managed to get to third, and the year before I was lucky enough to win! So lets hope this is the beginning of a trend!

Taking part in competitions outside the club is an excellent way of increasing your ability to fence. Fencing within the club is primarily for practicing and improving your technique, however you will come to know the weaknesses in your opponents, and they will come to know yours. Fencing outside the club helps you to think on your feet, to quickly adapt to your opponent. The experience you gain from competing is invaluable! On top of that, having a goal really helps to focus your training. If you are interested in taking part in any competitions, just ask Chris King for more info.

The Club will focus on 12-16 year olds, giving them the opportunity to learn to fence.  It will be based in the Main Hall at Hemel Hempstead School, Heath Lane, Hemel Hempstead, on Tuesday evenings, with tuition and coaching from 7pm-8.30, and the opportunity for free fencing until 9.30pm.

Colin Bennet (on the right) and Guy Miscampbell (on the left) entered into the Hertfordshire County Novice Foil Championships in February this year, representing Dacorum Fencing (contrary to what the HFA website says!). They done well, Guy made it to the quarter finals, and Colin made it to the semi finals, bringing home a Bronze medal. Congratulations to the both of you!

Colin Bennet has had a good year, as at the clubs annual dinner this year, he was also awarded The Christmas Cup. The Cup was donated by Jacqui Christmas, a former committee member, as a leaving present and is awarded to the most improved fencer of the year. Well done Colin, and keep up the good work!

Dacorum Fencing made a presence at the Hertfordshire Team Foil Championships this year. Our team initially was Peter Davies, Chris King, and myself, but unfortunately Peter had to pull out because of a nasty knee injury. At short notice Guy Miscampbell volunteered to take his place. We were unfortunate in the pools, and were dawn up to fence TRYB A, and Barnet A, both are very strong teams. We lost convincingly in both matches, and as such, didn't make it to the DE's. Even so, it was still well worth going, as I mentioned earlier, you learn so much competing, even if you don't do so well!

I think that's it for this update, and I shall endeavour to keep this site updated more regularly!
